Smriti Irani launches Yashaswini Scheme for Women entrepreneurship in Goa



Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Textiles, Smriti Irani today launched Yashaswini Scheme for Women entrepreneurship in Goa. The event was held at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium at Taleigao near Panaji. Swasthya Sakhi Project and breast cancer screening initiative were also inaugurated on the occasion.

The Minister said that development of women is the base for the development of nation. She added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has implemented many welfare schemes for the benefit of women. Ujjawala Yojana scheme has benefited crores of women in the country, she added.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan launches PURVODAYA in steel sector


Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Steel launched mission PURVODAYA for the development of eastern India through integrated steel hub in Kolkata, West Bengal. Under this mission, the government aims to transform logistics and utility infrastructure which would change the socio-economic landscape in eastern India.

HM Amit Shah digitally launches project VISHWAS & Cyber AASHVAST


Union Home Minister (HM) Amit Shah has paid a 2- day visit to Gujarat from January 11-12, 2020.He addressed the convocation function of Gujarat Technological University (GTU) & also attended Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar to digitally launch India’s 1st cyber AASHVAST (Assured Assistance Service Helpline for Victims at Shortest Time ) & project VISHWAS (Video Integration and State Wide Advanced Security).

Kolkata Port Trust renamed after Syama Prasad Mukherjee


Narendra Modi announced to rename the Kolkata Port Trust after Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. The announcement was made on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the historic Kolkata Port Trust.

The event was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He dedicated a commemorative stamp to mark 150 years of Kolkata port trust to the nation.

18th Edition of Dhaka International Film Festival begins


The 18th Dhaka International Film Festival was inaugurated on Saturday by the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen. The festival kicked off with the screening of the Spanish-Greek film Window to the Sea, directed by Miguel Angel Jimenez, at Bangladesh National Museum (BNM).

During the festival 220 films from 74 countries will be screened across various venues in Dhaka between 11-19 January. More than 100 film makers and other personalities from the movie world are participating in the event over the next eight days.

The theme of the festival is ‘Better Film, Better Audience and Better Society’.

National Youth Festival 2020 started in UP’s Lucknow



The 23rd National Youth Festival (NYF) 2020 has been scheduled to be held from 12-16 January at Indira Pratishthan, Lucknow. The festival will be jointly inaugurated by Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Kiren Rijiju. This festival is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and State Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The theme of the 23rd National Youth Festival 2020 is Fit Youth Fit India

Pulses Conclave 2020 to be held in Maharashtra



The Pulses Conclave 2020 (TPC 2020) has been scheduled to be held from 12-14 February 2020 in Lonavala, Maharashtra. The announcement was made by the India Pulses and Grains Association (IPGA), the nodal body for India’s pulses trade and industry on 9 January 2020.

The biennial global pulses conference ‘TPC 2020’ is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision is to double the farmer’s income by the year 2022. The Conclave programme various aspects including the dissemination of global and domestic pulses production numbers, global and domestic prices, supply and demand scenarios will be discussed.

SEBI extends April 2022 deadline for separation of chairman & MD posts for top 500 listed entities firms


Stock market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) has extended the deadline for the separation of the posts of Chairman and MD (Managing Director) or chief executive officer (CEO) for 500 listed companies by 2 years. Now this rule has to be followed by April 2022.

Haitham bin Tariq Al Said appointed as the new ruler of Oman


Haitham bin Tariq Al Said (66) was appointed as the new ruler of the Oman after the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said who ruled the country from 1970.

Haritham bin Tariq Al Said who is the cousin of the deceased Sultan Qaboos, was the Cultural and Heritage Minister of Oman.
In 2013 he was appointed by the Sultan Qaboos to chair the main committee responsible for Oman’s development.

Tsai Ing-wen won the Taiwan Presidential Election



Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen has won the presidential election for second time with 57.1% of total votes. She belongs to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). She defeated Han Kuo-yu of the rival Nationalist Party. In 2016 she won the Presidential election for the first time.

Jasprit Bumrah gets BCCI’s Polly Umrigar Award


Indian Bowler Jasprit Bumrah will receive the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Polly Umrigar Award for his super performance in International cricket.

At the same time, Poonam Yadav clinched the top prize in women’s category and was awarded the best international cricketer.



Former India captains Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Anjum Chopra were awarded the Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award and the BCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for women respectively.

Obituary

Noted Kerala Cartoonist Thomas Antony passes away at 62


Kerala Cartoonist and Secretary of Kerala Cartoon Academy Thomas Antony passed away at Kottackal town in Malappuram district, Kerala after suffering from heart attack. He was 62.

He worked as a cartoonist in Deepika daily and served as the executive artist with Malayalam daily ‘Metro Vaartha’.

In 2007 he won United Nations Political Cartoon Award and  the World Press Cartoon Award, instituted by an organization based in Lisbon, Portugal, in 2018.

National Youth Day is observed on 12 January


National Youth Day or Yuva Diwas is observed on 12 January across India. The day is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. It aims to create awareness and to provide knowledge to the youth about the rights in India.

The theme of the National Youth Day 2020 is “Channelizing Youth Power for Nation Building”. It aims to inspire the youth generations and to educate them to behave properly in society.

In Maharashtra Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari inaugurated 31st Road Safety Campaign organised by Regional Transport Office,Traffic Police and District Road Safety Committee in Nagpur.

Inaugurating the Road Safety campaign in Nagpur, he said, NGO’s, public organisations and other concerned stakeholders like Auto Dealers Association and Private Bus Operators must take initiative to ensure road safety measures.
